They would not have gotten their letter for Hogwarts, and would have had to wait a year to get their letter and be admitted! If they were born even a month after, they still would have been 10 in August, and therefore would not have received a letter until the following year.

    rules & misc. information. [26 Apr 2008|04:53pm]
    [info]cauldron is set in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the year 2008. It progresses in present time and maintains many present aspects. Some things that we ask you to keep in mind, however, involve canon of the "world" so to speak. No, there are no canon characters being accepted into the community, but no, that does not mean you may butcher the entire series to fit your whims. Below, we've listed major Hogwarts "rules", if they are broken under any circumstance, you will be removed. Just as crossing the OOC|IC line go, you may not compromise anyone's fun in regards to world canon and in this respect, we ask that you do not hold or apply if you have no knowledge of the books. (No, movies do not count.)

    • Students under the age of seventeen are subject to the restriction of the decree of underage wizardry. What does that entail? They may not practice magic outside of Hogwarts and they may not learn to apparate before the age of seventeen. As it goes in the books, students found breaking this rule will be expelled unless your character is Harry Potter, which he/she is not - we promise, you won't need a boy/girl who lived, Voldemort is dead as hell and there is no current dark lord.
    • No muggle devices work in Hogwarts because of the enchantments! It's all wonderful to have a muggleborn student here who happens to have a sidekick at home, but the magical interference in Hogwarts will make your character's electronic devices wonky and useless, therefore there is no texting, strolling down the corridor listening to an iPod and such. Your AIM screennames are NOT AIM in this game and they are not posting via blog/laptop/blackberry/what have you when they are posting in their journals.
    • Keep in mind that pureblood wizards have very little knowledge of the muggle world as a general rule. We'll let one or two slide with it, but we'd like to enforce some boundaries here.
    • Metamorphmagi and animaguses? No, not without our written consent, and we'll only allow one of each.
    • Prefects have decent grades and behave themselves - mostly. In good fun, they may abuse their power every so often - especially if they're a Slytherin - but if it becomes a habit, the headmaster will strip them of their titles. Also, prefects are lesser and take occasional orders from the head boy and girl; they follow the same rules prefects do, by the way.
    • Keep in mind when you pick the house of your student the traits of that house. Not all Slytherins are evil, but it's highly unlikely that they will be seen cavorting with the likes of the Hufflepuffs - it's even less likely they will act like Hufflepuffs. Gryffindors are rarely unruly bitches and Ravenclaws are hardly ever unintelligent.
    • Ready for the fun part? You may hex one another from conversations, private certain things off, organize pranks on each other's houses and travel in packs. Your character may be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, asexual or whatever sexual you'd like - really, we don't stress that crap, it's called creative freedom. The prefects of each house are free to create a community solely for the members of their house where they may discuss anything under the sun - the only exception is that no students may be left out and the mod journal must be added to these communities.
    • There are ten students to each house for each year. That is all. In example, seventh year Gryffindor will have 10 students; five boys and five girls. Because of general creepiness, we do not allow you to play below fifth year and ask that if you do choose to play a fifth year, keep in mind that they are only fifteen and probably not behaving like Disney kids gone wild regardless of who their PB is.
    • The only pets allowed in school are cats, owls, frogs and rats; feel free to have your character sneak other animals in if necessary, but make sure they don't brag about it openly or it will mean points from their house. (We're really keeping track of those.)
    • THERE ARE NO AMERICAN TRANSFERS. We don't care good you are at British/Irish/Scottish/what have you spelling or slang, but we're remaining firm on this as it was cited by J.K. Rowling herself and rather than only allow one or two and go against what she's said, we're just going to follow it. We apologize to anyone this may inconvenience, but we will accept transfers from other countries that would normally attend Beauxbatons or Durmstrang.
    • There are no girls on the Slytherin quidditch team.
    • Easy on the overly "scene" PBs. Please, not everyone is going to be sporting neon green hair, just keep that in mind.
    • Updates are due once every two weeks and no, we don't care what you choose to write them about or how long they are, just write them. Easy enough, right?
    • Your first entry should be a short biography or 10-15 detailed facts. Please try to include a bit of their personality into it and what the sorting hat said about them. Be creative, this is meant to be fun!


  • There will be Hogsmeade weekends every few weeks - we're working on the exacts for that, but it'll be announced upon opening!
  • Group chats will be held every Friday, we encourage prefects to hold house chats in the interim.
  • Major events such as Halloween, Quidditch matches, and school functions will be threaded. It's optional, but we'd like to see a lot of group effort here seeing as it will help this place survive!
  • House points may be deducted and added, but keep in mind that a prefect under no circumstances can deduct house points from a fellow prefect! Head boy and girl may, but not prefects. Please make sure to comment the post for house points and let us know when you've awarded or deducted points from someone, otherwise we won't know!
  • It's important that you make friends with people in your house above all else - working as a team will reflect here, we promise!
  • If something happens that will affect the whole community - I.E. writing about certain homework, professors or fights - let us know about it, you don't have to ask, we just want to make sure everyone is on the same level.
  • We'll be posting daily prophet sections on Hogwarts gossip and current events weekly, it's dire you let us know things. Again, working as a team will help in this community because it's going to be incredibly interactive.
